The New York State Assembly this morning voted to prohibit "fracking" or "hydrofracking" in our state, giving us a rare display of having listened to the voters. For those of you who do not know the dangers this process can present, picture fire coming out of your water faucet, just for starters. This process contaminates soil and ground water for years, and natural gas is readily available in any one of many other ways, including landfill gas reclamation, that do not threaten our crops or groundwater.
I am proud to say I was one of those who circulated petitions protesting this process here in NYC, as well as online.
Sometimes, the system does work.
